It's been a tough season so far for Birmingham City and things got worse still earlier this week as they lost to Brentford.

It was a result that was pretty ironic, too, given how the Blues signed a number of the Bees' players during the summer window, and there is clearly work to do for Steve Cotterill to do.

On the subject of signings, though, we've been thinking about Birmingham's best bargain buys in recent years and so, with that in mind, here's who we came up with...

Alfie Burns

I’m going to say Che Adams, although he still has a lot to prove in a Birmingham shirt.

Adams only arrived last season from Sheffield United, but the 21-year-old has shown signs during his time at St Andrew’s that he has a big future ahead of him.

The forward’s value must have rocketed in the last year, and in time he will prove to be a bargain for the Blues.

Chris Gallagher

Che Adams - he has great potential.

The forward joined for around £1.5m and reports suggest Blues rejected a £10m bid on deadline day.

That shows how much he has progressed and he has already become the main man at St. Andrew's. There's still a lot more to come from him and he can get even better. Birmingham are sure to make major profit on him if and when he does leave.

George Dagless

Che Adams.

He signed for a snip when you consider his age and the huge potential he has got. Birmingham have struggled this season but Adams has still performed well on a number of occasions.

With that in mind, and with another transfer window a couple of months away, Blues fans are surely going to worry about keeping him.
