Burnley have confirmed the arrival of MK Dons star Scott Twine via the club website. 

The Clarets, who are preparing for their first season back in the Championship following a six-year stint in the Premier League, are now under the stewardship of Vincent Kompany and will be eager to keep hold of some of their assets.

Twine netted 20 times and provided a further 13 assists last season in League One, managing to scoop the third-tier Player of the Season award in the process.

Proving to be a level above last time out, Twine has now been presented with an opportunity to ply his trade in the higher division.

Here, three of our writers here at FLW have shared their thoughts on whether Twine could emerge as a regular starter at Turf Moor during the 2022/23 campaign...

Charlie Gregory 

For Scott Twine to not start under Vincent Kompany would be a bad decision considering how excellent he has been in League One.

Burnley do have a wealth of options though and considering some of those names are Premier League standard after their time in the top flight, he may not be given a start straight away. He’s adapted well to every league he has played in though and he certainly deserves to be given the nod early on.

He’s attacking, creative and capable of bagging goals at every level he has played at. If the Clarets want to be promotion contenders, they would do well to start him immediately.

Whether he starts though may depend on how many more names come through the door and who exactly Kompany signs. Right now though, he should certainly be in the first-team picture.

Adam Jones

If he was just an ordinary League One player then you can understand him starting on the bench.

However, with 20 goals and 13 assists, it would be a real waste if he was to start on the bench because he has the ability to fire the Clarets back to the Premier League if he can perform how he did last term.

His attacking contributions may be particularly important with Wout Weghorst looking likely to move on this summer - because they will need to replace his goals.

At 22, he will only get better in the next few years if he's a regular starter so it would be a tragedy to see him watching on from the sidelines.

Carla Devine 

This is an excellent bit of business from Burnley as they look ahead to life in the Championship and Twine should be a signing that can really help them.

Furthermore, given this is also the 22-year-old’s highest season in football so far, you can imagine he’ll be eager to show what he can do and be involved.

It’s clear to see how his form has stepped up as he’s progressed in his career but you’ve also got to take into account the step up to the Championship and whilst there’s no doubt he’ll do well, it would be unlikely to see him reach last season’s League One numbers.

Therefore, I think we’ll see him start a good number of games for Vincent Kompany this season but he won’t necessarily be used as a starting player every week. That being said, if he can take his chances and prove his talent in the league then his role can increase further.
