Middlesbrough centre-back Daniel Ayala has been linked with a move to Leeds United when his deal at the Riverside expires this summer but many fans of the Yorkshire club have spoken out against the potential signing.

Ayala has spent the last six seasons with the North East club, amassing more than 200 appearances and representing them in both the Premier League and the Championship.

However, the Spaniard is out-of-contract in the summer and it is understood he will not sign a new deal with the Teessiders.

According to the Daily Star, Leeds are interested in signing the experienced defender regardless of if they're playing in the Championship or the Premier League next term.

Brighton loanee Ben White has proved a fantastic signing for Marcelo Bielsa's side this season, helping them concede the fewest goals in the division and climb to the top of the table, but his future is unclear – with a host of top-flight sides reportedly interested.

Additionally, Gaetano Berardi's deal at Elland Road is set to expire this summer, meaning Liam Cooper may be Bielsa's only remaining senior central defender and that Leeds may be keen to bolster their options.

In a recent Q&A on Instagram (via Leeds Live), Ayala's wife revealed that they "don't know anything yet" regarding the 29-year-old's future and where he will be playing next term.

It appears many Leeds fans would prefer that it is at not Elland Road as they took to Twitter to speak out against the reiterated links between the Whites and the Boro defender.
