Reading manager Jose Gomes is looking to bring a fellow countryman to the Madejski Stadium, with Norwich outcast Nelson Oliveira closing in on a move, according to HITC.

The striker spent seven years at Benfica, during which he spent loan spells at Rio Ave, Pacos Ferreira, Deportivo la Coruna, Rennes, Swansea City and Nottingham Forest before making the permanent move to Norwich City in 2016.

So having fallen out of favour at Carrow Road, could Oliveira keep Reading in the Championship if he signs?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

"He will keep them in the Championship.

"Oliveira is a proven goalscorer at this level, and would be an excellent signing for the relegation threatened Royals.

"He has his disciplinary issues, but if Jose Gomes can keep him grounded, his goals could single-handedly keep Reading in the Championship this season."

Chris Gallagher

"Potentially for sure.

"On his day, he can be a top, top Championship striker so that should excite fans.

"The challenge for Jose Gomes is to get him firing consistently but it's a risk worth taking given the Royals situation."

Jay Taylor

“It depends on which Oliveira turns up, to be honest – does he have the temperament for a relegation battle?

“Will it be the one who wants to do well for the club or will it be one that is divisive and unruly?

“The striker has not played all season, so it depends what shape he will be in going forward.

“But ultimately, I can’t see one man having a season-saving effect and keeping Reading up.”
