After an impressive first half of the 2016/17 Premier League season, Mark Hughes was still looking to improve his Stoke City squad ahead of a potential push for Europe.

The Potters had just defeated relegation candidates Sunderland at the Stadium of Light by three goals to nil, and sat in a very promising ninth position in the Premier League table.

Marko Arnautovic had been on fire in the opening first half of the season and netted a brace against the Black Cats - but this didn't stop Hughes from adding even more firepower to his squad.

In this FLW Rewind, we take a look at when Stoke City announced the signing of West Bromwich Albion forward Saido Berahino for a fee of £12million.

It was a move that raised eyebrows, especially for £12million - the forward had played just five times that season and had failed to find the back of the net in each of the games.

But the striker had endured some impressive seasons in previous years, after scoring 20 goals in 45 games in the 2014/15 season, and seven goals in 35 games the year after.

Initially, most fans were happy at this big-money signing...

But this transfer has turned out to be an absolute disaster, and is arguably one of the biggest transfer flops in the club's long history.

The striker failed to find the back of the net for the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign, and then failed to score a single goal in 18 appearances for Stoke last season, as they were relegated to the second tier.

Berahino finally opened his account for the Staffordshire club against Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup this season, after going 913 days without a professional goal - but it looks as if he could be on his way out of the club in the summer.

News has recently emerged in the Daily Mail that Stoke are looking to sell the 25-year-old in the summer, after he was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning on suspicion of drink-driving, despite being set to feature for the under-23s against Manchester United the same day.

With the striker believed to be on £80,000-a-week, it would be a massive boost for the club if they can get him off the wage bill and bring in another forward in the summer.

Berahino has scored five goals in 26 appearances this term, but the club simply need to get rid in the summer.
