Despite league defeats in their last two outings, Barnsley are going along well under Daniel Stendel in League One currently sitting in fifth place, nine points off leaders Portsmouth.

Stendel has been in charge at Oakwell since June 2018, with his only other managerial appointment being in his native Germany with Hannover 96.

But is Stendel the real deal at Barnsley?

We discuss.....

George Harbey

He looks to be a good manager but I don’t think he’s the real deal just yet.

Barnsley have made a good start to the season but should be higher with the squad that they have.

He’ll show what he’s all about in the second half of the season where it really counts.

Gary Hutchinson

Absolutely, yes.

There’s a lot to be done still, they’re a tad inconsistent and have a sloppy loss or two behind them, but they’re developing.

The manner in which they hammered Peterborough was impressive and then how they fought to a win against Luton.

I’m very surprised, but with players like Potts and Moncur, maybe it was always going to happen.

Jacob Potter

He is certainly an exciting prospect to have as manager of the club.

In his first season managing in England, Stendel has shown he can adapt to a style that suits Barnsley this season.

It is clearly working as they currently sit 5th in League 1 and are well in the promotion race for an immediate return to the Championship. Stendel will be hoping his side can keep up this good run of form for the rest of the season.

Louie Chandler

I do.

He plays brilliant football and has turned Barnsley into a menacing side with very little work in the transfer window.

He will be in the Championship next season even if the Tykes are not.
