Jordan Pickford made a name for himself this summer, the young Everton keeper turned in some strong performances over in Russia which helped England to the World Cup semi-final.

He's been rewarded with a new contract at Goodison Park, a six-year deal which secures his future in the long term. He tweeted his delight at having put pen to paper, beaming as he signed until 2024 with the Premier League side.

He might be the darling of Goodison now and of course of England, but one set of fans are just as happy to see him progressing to become one of the country's top players. Pickford joined Sunderland at the age of eight and progressed rapidly, eventually making 31 Premier League appearances for them after loan spells with Darlington, Alfreton, Carlisle, Burton, Preston and Bradford City.

Eventually he moved to Everton for a fee of £25m, rising to £30m, making him the most expensive British goalkeeper of all time. Even so, those Black Cats fans haven't forgotten about their homegrown hero and they too were soon congratulating him on his huge deal.

Here's the best of their responses from Twitter.
