Sheffield Wednesday climbed back into the Sky Bet Championship play-off positions at the weekend, after defeating Brentford 2-1 at Hillsborough.

The Owls secured back-to-back wins on Saturday afternoon after they defeated Brentford by two goals to one, as Garry Monk’s men continue to build momentum heading into the New Year.

But the afternoon didn’t go to plan straight away, though. Bryan Mbeumo headed home from a corner to give Brentford an early lead, in a half which they dominated on the whole.

But with the game threatening to get away from the Owls, Steven Fletcher netted a brace in quick succession to secure an invaluable 2-1 win for Wednesday, taking his tally up to 10 goals for the campaign.
