Charlton Athletic have been plunged into further relegation danger following their damaging 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

Lee Bowyer's side needed the three points against the Teesside outfit in order to climb clear of danger following back-to-back defeats against Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield, but they have instead dropped to 22nd in the table following the defeat.

Paddy McNair's 17th-minute goal was enough to separate the two sides during their crucial meeting in south London, and Boro have now climbed up to 19th following the 1-0 success which represented their first league victory since New Years' Day.

Charlton are now in serious danger of relegation ahead of their final nine matches of the campaign, with Bowyer's men having still failed to kick on since a productive transfer deadline day in January which saw them add three new players to their ranks.

The south London side have struggled to fill the midfield void left by Conor Gallagher following Chelsea's decision to recall him before loaning him out to Swansea, with the England Under-21 international having scored six goals before his exit from the club.

One Charlton supporter has now taken to the Charlton Athletic FC(The unofficial & UnCensored Charlton Fans Group) Facebook group to express how much the Addicks have been missing Gallagher's presence since his departure in mid-January.

Plenty of Charlton supporters responded by suggesting that Gallagher's influence on the side has become clearer since his departure, while others highlighted the 20-year-old's midfield creativity as the main thing Charlton are missing at the moment.

Here are some of the responses...

Neil Turnham: Been saying the same, miss his drive and creativity particularly.

Dave Warren: Absolutely agree, underestimate how good a player he was for us.

Callum Longhurst: He was our backbone.

Neal Rust: I said this from the beginning, my favourite player for us. Phenomenal work rate and class on the ball, made that midfield tick when we had a full squad. I’m pretty sure we would be mid table if we still had him, he was that good for me.

Bray Ash: We are lacking a midfielder who can score. He was that.

Lewis Hudson: I have never thought that one player could make a team, but Gallagher was the inspiration.
