Reading sacked Paul Clement after just nine months in charge in December, replacing him with Jose Gomes, who has impressed.

Clement took over from Jaap Stam in March 2018, and helped the Royals avoid the drop to League One late in the 2017-18 campaign.

The Berkshire club had won just four of their 20 matches before Clement was sacked, and they sat out of the bottom three on goal difference alone.

Since then, Reading have looked a bit better, but they are still well in the relegation fight.

Here, we debate whether Reading should've stuck with Clement…

Gary Hutchinson

"Not a chance.

"He was driving them in one direction. League One.

"They’re seeing some changes now, they look more coherent.

"It was 100% the right move."

Jacob Potter

"Absolutely not.

"He was in a downward spiral with Reading and they would have been relegated with him in charge.

"Jose Gomes is already showing what a new manager can do with an underperforming group of players and Reading were spot on to sack Clement when they did."

Louie Chandler

"I don't think so.

"I always think it is a shame when a manager is sacked mid-season but Reading were falling fast.

"Bringing in Gomes was a risk but it seems to be paying off."

Alfie Burns

"Absolutely not, the club was only heading in one direction with Clement at the helm.

"The football is better under Gomes and the Royals have a great chance of avoiding the drop.

"Sacking Clement gave them a fighting chance."
