Stoke City have this week parted company with manager Gary Rowett less than eight months after he joined the club, with the Potters in 14th place in the Championship, eight points off the play-off places.

The Potters were one of the pre-season favourites to win promotion but have won just eight of their 26 league fixtures and face a real struggle to get back to the English top-flight, in what is shaping up to be an ultra competitive division this season.

So, is it fair to say Rowett has been the biggest underachieving boss this season?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

“When you look at the size of the club, the money spent and some of the players that arrived, you would have to say without a doubt yes.

"Gary Rowett was spoilt for at Stoke, he spent tens of millions of pounds to shape a relegated Potters side to his image – and that was a disaster.

"Poor signings and ones that didn’t fit his style of play was a problem – and he could not get the best out of them.

"Rowett to me seems like a manager who is better working to a budget than with carte blanc in terms of transfer funds.

"But what he had at his disposal was not handled correctly and that ultimately showed.”

Jacob Potter

"You have to say he has struggled this season.

"With the budget that Rowett has had available to him this season, it’s disappointing to see Stoke struggling to force their way into the promotion hunt.

"They have a number of players on their books that could arguably be playing in the Premier League, so he definitely has been the biggest underachieving manager so far this season."

Sam Rourke

"He ultimately got found out.

"Rowett has struggled to adapt to being at a 'big' club with a lot of resources in Stoke City, and he seemingly had no Plan B when the going got tough.

"Having spent a hefty sum of money in the summer, Rowett just could not get the best out of the team, and he was rightly dismissed."
