Sheffield Wednesday’s wait for a Premier League return goes on, with the Owls’ last appearance in the top-flight coming in 2000.

Carlos Carvalhal, the club’s current boss, has gone closest to delivering a Premier League return, leading Wednesday to back-to-back play-off appearances.

However, recent success in the Championship has come at a cost, with Wednesday often one of the busier clubs in the transfer window.

Players have come and gone at Hillsborough in recent years, but what is Wednesday’s biggest transfer regret?

Here at FLW, we take a look…

The signings of Sergiu Bus and Lewis McGugan back in 2015 stand out for me as regrets.

Lets be honest, they were awful during their time at Sheffield Wednesday, with both struggling to make an impact on the first-team.

Both have now departed the Sheffield side. A waste of time and money.

The timing of this isn't ideal, but it has to be Jordan Rhodes.

He may have two in two, but for £10m Rhodes' record at Hillsborough is appalling. He was the man brought to fire the Owls to the Premier League and failed badly.

Not taking a penalty in the play-off semi-final didn't go down well and he still has a lot to do in order to convince the Wednesday fans.

Adam Simeoni

Jordan Rhodes, but this could be about to change.

Wednesday stumped up big money to bring the Scottish international to Hillsborough, and despite his poor form whilst on-loan, the club were obliged to sign the player due to a clause.

A couple of goals in recent weeks could spark a revival for the striker.
