Martin O'Neill picks up the managerial reins at Nottingham Forest with his side in relatively decent shape in ninth place in the Championship, just four points off the play-off places ahead of the visit of Bristol City to the City Ground this weekend.

O'Neill has a big job on his hands as he looks to push-on and get his side back into the promotion mix, that will require a swift assessment of his over-inflated squad.

So what are the areas that O'Neill should be looking to strengthen  at Forest?

We discuss.....

George Dagless

"Probably defence.

"O'Neill has got a decent squad there in front of him but he might be tempted to make some defensive tweaks.

"Honestly, though, I don't think he needs much and could get results out of this team."

Gary Hutchinson

“He should concentrate on the back-line.

“He needs to get the attackers playing well, but they’re good enough to. He doesn’t need recruits there.

“In fairness to Karanka, he doesn’t badly need recruits anywhere.

“He needs to get their current squad playing.”

Jay Taylor

“I think Nottingham Forest need assistance in the defensive third of the pitch.

“In addition to that, Forest need a new goalkeeper, and that could well be that.

“Martin O’Neill comes into the club with a plethora of attacking options both in midfield and up front, as well as having players able to hold in the middle of the pitch too in abundance.

“Adding to the rear guard at the City Ground is imperative and getting a goalkeeper, and a couple of centre-halves should be the first order of business for the new Forest boss.”
