Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has now had a month and four matches to get to grips with his new squad and assess what areas need particular attention, to get his side back into promotion contention in the Championship.

Certainly it is the defence and goalkeeper slots that will have stood out to Smith as areas he must focus on and whether Orjan Nyland retains his place in goal, must be a question that needs answering.

Nyland has struggled for form this season, so has the time come for Smith to drop the Norwegian?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

I say it every week, yes.

Nyland hasn’t convinced and at 28 he should have settled by now. He’s not a kid, he’s an experienced professional but he looks pressured.

Give him a rest. Not a Felix Wiedwald style ‘see you never’ rest, but a few games out of the limelight.

Who knows, it might be the kick he needs. If not, at least Villa know.

George Harbey

I think Mark Bunn deserves a chance.

Nyland hasn’t been at his best this season and doesn’t really offer the back four any encouragement.

Jay Taylor

He should - but he won’t.

Dean Smith has played Orjan Nyland in every game since he has taken charge and I feel he is trying to play him into form.

That isn’t working as even with a clean sheet the goalkeeper was frail and clumsy.

Villa have other options between the ticks and probably more competent ones, so I think Smith should drop the goalkeeper.
