Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has had more than his fair share of selection headaches over the course of the season, with a series of injuries and suspensions impacting on his compact playing squad.

Bielsa though has tended to play, senior players out of position rather than rush young inexperienced players into the first team squad from the U23's.

Spanish defender Hugo Diaz is a player in point, who has gone about his business quietly in the U23's but as yet has not done enough to get the call from his manager.

So should Bielsa be giving Diaz a chance in the Leeds first-team?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"It is a massive risk.

"Yes, Leeds are short at the back but throwing in an inexperienced player at this stage of the season could backfire, especially at centre-back.

"I think it would be smarter to keep employing experienced first-teamers out of position instead."

Jacob Potter

"He’s deserving of a chance.

"Diaz has quietly gone about his business for the Leeds under 23’s side, and I think he’s done enough to warrant a place in the first-team squad.

"There’s no harm in trying out youngsters, as Bielsa has already shown that he can get the best out of them."

Gary Hutchinson

“There’s no call for that in my eyes.

“There’s other players further up the line.

“It’s not something to be taken lightly, playing in a Premier League chasing side.

“Diaz is a talent, but the time for tinkering and trials went with the EFL Cup exit.”

Alfie Burns

“He should be closer than he is.

“Diaz is a classy footballer and definitely fits what Bielsa wants from a player.

“He’s good on the ball and holds the shape of the team well in midfield.

“If the stakes weren’t so high I’m sure we would have seen him.”

Jay Taylor

“No, his inexperience at Championship level would be to the detriment of the team.

“It’s an important time in the league season and experience, and guile are needed to navigate through the business end to the season.

“With Berardi coming back they have him, Jansson and Cooper – that is enough for centre-half cover going into the final few months of the season.”
