West Brom forward Dwight Gayle has been charged with "successful deception of a match official"  after Tuesday's draw with Nottingham Forest, in which it is alleged he committed an act of simulation which led to a penalty being awarded, the club website has confirmed.

The resulting penalty was scored by Jay Rodriguez to secure a point for the Baggies, who stayed fourth in the Championship, with this late equaliser denying Nottingham Forest a win that would have moved them to within three points of the play-off places.

Gayle, 28, who is on loan from Newcastle United, has until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the charge.

Our team give their thoughts on the diving controversy.

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"It really is a shame to see.

"We like to pretend that the Championship and below is above these antics scene in top-flight leagues but the reality is that we are not.

"A two match ban is right, now it is a question of whether that rule is consistently enforced."

Gary Hutchinson

“Shocking.

“It happens, but when it does everyone just moans a bit.

“Then a guy turns up with a camera outside a training ground and it’s serious business?

“Who has directly influenced the result of a game there?”

Alfie Burns

“It was poor from the player and the FA were right to punish him.

“West Brom fans will accept any punishment, but the frustration starts when you consider how many others get away with things like this.

“Hopefully this is the start of the governing bodies clamping down on it.”

Jacob Potter

"It was disgraceful.

"He’s rightly been charged by the FA for this and it should set an example going forward, that you can’t get away with it in this day and age.

"He should be ashamed of himself."
