It was a very frustrating season for Sheffield Wednesday last campaign, finishing in a 15th place finish just a year after losing out in the playoffs.

The question now is where do they go from here.

This is now manager Jos Luhukay's first pre-season with the Owls after taking over from the sacked Carlos Carvalhal midway through last season and it remains to be seen how he will set up his troops next year.

Up front is where there is a big question mark for Wednesday.

They do not have a shortage of options in attack with Adthe Nuhiu, Sam Winnall, Lucas Joao, Steven Fletcher and Gary Hooper to choose from.

But they need a main man to step forward. Could that be Gary Hooper?

The 30-year-old scored 10 goals for Wednesday last season, six the year before and 13 the season before.

Is he good enough to be the Owls main man this season?

We discuss.

Chris Gallagher

He should be.

He's still the most natural finisher at Hillsborough and unless they bring someone in, the former Celtic man is the most likely to get 15-20 goals if he stays fit.

Gary Hutchinson

Nobody is ever guaranteed a start, but if he comes back and scores goals then he'll be a key figure, that is for sure.

12 months ago we would have said Jordan Rhodes was guaranteed a place, but look what happened there. A striker's place is based on his goals.

Jay Williams

If he is fully fit, Hooper will always be in with a shout of starting week in, week out.

Sheffield Wednesday fans will be praying for a whole season out of the striker as that could really strengthen their promotion credentials.

Alfie Burns

He should be, he was sorely missed last season.

The forward’s injury really hurt Wednesday, with the Owls not looking the same without Hooper in the starting XI.

Luhukay should have him in his plans.

Louie Chandler

Potentially. Wednesday seem to have a lot of underperforming strikers and Hooper is probably the best shout out of the lot of them.

Staying fit will be the biggest stumbling block, however.
