Pelly Ruddock-Mpanzu is a man in demand this month by the sounds of things, with Norwich City, West Brom and Swansea City all apparently interested in him – according to Football Insider.
The midfielder has put in a number of fine displays for the Hatters this season with them impressing in the Championship and it appears Ruddock-Mpanzu has his suitors.
Would he be a good signing for Norwich, then? Our writers here at FLW discuss…
I’ve watched Mpanzu for a number of years now and he seems to get better as each year goes by.
He’s a tenacious, powerful midfielder who can play as a defensive midfielder or as a box-to-box player, so he’d right into Daniel Farke’s set-up at Carrow Road.
His quality on the ball is also very exciting, and he’s at an age where he’s in his prime, too.
You look at Norwich’s current midfield options, and Mpanzu would be an excellent long-term replacement for Alex Tettey, I feel.
With his contract expiring at the end of the season, this could be a real dilemma for Luton.
7 of these 18 facts about Norwich City boss Daniel Farke are fake – Can you identify which ones aren’t true?
It would be a decent signing for Norwich.
Ruddock-Mpanzu is a player that always does a job whenever you watch him in the flesh.
He doesn’t really get as much credit as he might deserve, but he’s consistent for Luton and that’s a good trait to have in the Championship.
However, this month I cannot see the Hatters letting the 27-year-old go.
It doesn’t make much sense to give this type of January deal the green-light, as attractive as a move to Norwich might be at this stage.
However, in saying that, given Norwich might win promotion this season, their transfer plan could change in the summer.
That might give this deal a chance of accelerating this month.
Ruddock-Mpanzu would add something different to what Norwich already have in midfield, meaning this could be an intriguing signing by Daniel Farke.
Signing players in January is never easy so I feel Luton will fight hard to keep their man if bids are forthcoming, which means a move could be unlikely with the clock ticking down towards the deadline rapidly.
He’d be a great signing for any club at Championship level and has proved time and again this season that he has adapted well to it after coming through the lower leagues.
Whether Norwich need him or not is a subject for debate, however, I think weakening a league rival for your own gain is a clever move to make for any team, let alone the current league leaders.
