Sunderland are well and truly in the midst of a relegation battle, as they 23rd spot in the Sky Bet Championship table.

One player who has not been starting for the Black Cats week in, week out and whom has been mainly consigned to the bench, is tricky winger Aiden McGeady.

Should the 31-year-old be starting every week?

We discuss....

Adam Simeoni

McGeady has performed relatively well for the Black Cats this season, and deserves to be starting if his form proves to Chris Coleman that he deserves the nod.

However despite his big name, if he is not up to scratch in training then Coleman will not be afraid to drop him.

He is undoubtedly a quality player with bags of experience, but the decision lies with the manager.

Sam Preston

Not for me.

He's got ability and the quality to beat a man, we all know that and have done for years.

I've just never been convinced with his attitude - is he the kind of man with the fight for a relegation battle? I don't think he is.

He can come on as an impact sub and change things up but I wouldn't have him down as a guaranteed starter.

Also, in Sunderland's 3-5-2, I don't see an obvious role for him as I think his most natural position is as a winger.

George Dagless

Coleman should make this call.

McGeady might not always do the right thing but he can have an impact and provides some extra quality to the side.

He's tricky and Sunderland need to use that as much as possible.

Alfie Burns

For me, he is one of the best players at the Stadium of Light and Coleman can’t afford to leave him on the sidelines.

McGeady hasn’t had the impact many expected him to at Sunderland, but with the position the club find themselves in, he really should be starting, with the hope he can produce the goods to keep Coleman’s side in the division.
