Stoke City entered the season as favourites for promotion with most bookies, and many outsiders agreed with the tipsters, fancying Stoke for an instant return to the Premier League.

It hasn’t worked out for them, and the season could be said to be nothing short of awful.

Nathan Jones may have brought some good feeling back to the bet365, but prior to that, it has been a toxic environment where the fans have struggled to get behind their players.

Every player has underperformed, making our job of choosing the most disappointing player for Stoke quite challenging.

Our panel attempt it…

Jacob Potter

"Peter Etebo without a shadow of a doubt.

"He arrived for a hefty fee in the summer and has struggled from minute one of his Stoke career to adjust to life in the Championship.

"Stoke will surely be tempted to offload him before the transfer window closes this month."

Chris Gallagher

"There's a lot of competition for this one!

"I'd probably just say Ryan Shawcross. He was very good for Stoke for the majority of their stay in the Premier League, although he struggled as they went down.

"Even so, you expected him to adapt pretty easily to the Championship and he would be the leader that would take the Potters back up - but it hasn't worked at all. He's looked sluggish and poor."

Gary Hutchinson

"Where do you start?

"Shawcross should have been better than he was, but a new manager seems to have brought him to life.

"I expected more goals from Afobe too.

"For the money they paid, his return has been poor."

Louie Chandler

"Benik Afobe.

"The striker looked the real deal with Wolves last season and should have been scoring goals for fun in this Stoke side.

"But he quickly lost his edge and that almost selfish nature needed to be a top striker."
