Nottingham Forest return to action following the international break when they entertain Norwich, with manager Aitor Karanka hoping his side can maintain the form that has taken them up to fifth in the Championship.

One decision for Karanka ahead of the game is whether 21-year-old Portuguese attacker Diogo Goncalves has done enough to earn selection for the first team squad, following his superb individual goal for the Portugal U21 side against Bosnia this week.

But is this goal enough for Goncalves to put himself in contention?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

One swallow doesn’t make a summer - and that is the case with Diogo Goncalves.

He scored a great goal for the Portugal U21s but has failed to produce when it matters in the Championship.

Opportunities have been difficult to come by but Aitor Karanka sees him every day in training so there must be some sort of disconnect to explain his domestic absence.

Gary Hutchinson

He should think about using him, but not after one goal.

As a sub or an impact player, yes.

To start, it would be a fallacy to drop someone just because he scored a decent goal for someone else.

The only thing that should prompt that is performances for Forest, something he hasn’t provided yet.

George Dagless

Perhaps.

It was a fantastic goal but he needs to be more consistent and start showing that for the Reds on a weekly basis.

I can't see him starting straight away but it's a reminder of what he can do and hopefully for the Tricky Trees he'll get a much-needed confidence boost.

Jacob Potter

He needs to prove himself.

Don’t get me wrong, Goncalves’ goal for Portugal Under 21’s was a magnificent goal but he needs to step up and adapt to English football if he is to have any future with Nottingham Forest.

But he also does need to be given a fair amount of game time. With just one start all season, he hasn’t had a fair crack of the whip and will be hoping he gets the chance to prove himself this season at the City Ground.
