A number of Birmingham City supporters have reacted to the performance of Jonathan Leko in the Blues’ 1-0 win against League Two Colchester United in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

Lee Bowyer rang the changes as he looked to freshen up the side following their impressive 1-0 win against Sheffield United on the opening day of the Championship season on Saturday.

Leko was one of the players that came into the side and he would have been hoping to lay down a marker and show what he can to try and convince Bowyer to give him regular starts in the Championship this season.

The 22-year-old though largely struggled to make too much of an impact on the game against a stubborn Colchester defence that held out for around 75 minutes before finally conceding the only goal of the contest.

The attacker did not manage to have a single attempt on target throughout the game and he only had 25 touches of the ball.

While Leko was also unable to complete a single successful dribble and also gave away the ball on seven occasions.

It was not really a performance that would have done enough to convince Bowyer that he should come into the side for their game against Stoke City on Saturday in the Championship.

Many Birmingham fans were disappointed with the lack of impact Leko had on the game and some even suggested that they would send him out on loan to get some confidence into his game.
