Reading kick-off their Championship campaign at home to Derby County this Friday night with a number of new signings looking to make their debut.

Sam Baldock has arrived from Premier League Brighton looking to find the form that he once had at MK Dons and Bristol City.

The striker was plagued by injuries during his time at the Amex after having a hand in the Seagull’s promotion to the top flight two years ago.

The Argus is reporting the 29-year-old has moved to the Madejski for £1.5million with the free rising to £5million with add-ons.

Reading were in need of further attacking talent after the arrival of Marc McNulty from Coventry.

The Royals still look like they lack quality in the defensive and midfield third of the pitch, but with the signing of the former West Ham striker, they have a player, if he can find his form,  who will score for fun in the Championship.

Having sealed a move back to the Championship, is Baldock a guaranteed starter for Reading when they take on Derby this Friday night?

We discuss…

Louie Chandler

I would say he is unlikely to, given his lack of match practice over the last year.

Clement will be keen to get him involved as soon as possible, but I don't think he will be rushing him in either.

Jay Williams

By no means whatsoever.

Baldock has only just arrived at the club so he has not had much time to work under Paul Clement yet.

With Marc McNulty and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson also vying for a starting spot, I think that Baldock could start the season on the bench.

Sam Rourke

He needs to be.

Baldock needs to get game-time ASAP, and Clement should be bold and start his new signing on Friday night.

The ex-Brighton man is arguably Reading's best striking option at present, so deserves to start against Derby.

Gary Hutchinson

If you're Reading and you spend that money on a striker, you play him. It is that simple.

If he doesn't start then, Paul Clement needs a dressing down.

Baldock has been drafted in to score goals; you don't do that in a training top with a water bottle in your hand.
