After a terrific first season under Jaap Stam, things haven't gone anywhere near as well for the Royals in this campaign.

The departure of a few key players and injuries haven't helped, but Stam's men are way down in 18th position.

Although, the recent signs are positive, with comprehensive wins over Nottingham Forest and Derby offering hope for the rest of the season.

As well as that, influential forward Yann Kermogant is ready to play having missed the whole of the season so far.

Despite that, Stam does have some good options available to him and we wondered which Reading player had been underutilised this season.

Here are writers deliver their verdicts...

George Dagless

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

The Icelandic striker was signed in the summer but he's not been in the side every game and that's been strange.

He's a hard-working player and can score goals so I think a few more appearances wouldn't go amiss. He needs to prove himself in those games though.

Alfie Burns

It’s a controversial one because his goalscoring record isn’t brilliant, but Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Reading have missed a focal point in attack on occasion this season, which Bodvarsson would have undoubtedly given Stam’s side.

Yann Kermorgant’s injury has hindered Reading this year, but Stam should’ve had more faith in Bodvarsson to deputise.

Sam Rourke

Adrian Popa.

The Romanian winger has found it very hard to break into the first-team this season, and has mostly be plying his trade for the Under-23's.

Popa has guile, pace and skill - and has proved very effective at times when on the pitch.

With the likes of Roy Beerens not producing the sort of form we saw last season, he needs to be handed more opportunities by Stam.
