Derby County responded to their recent defeat to Fulham by securing a 1-1 draw against Queens Park Rangers last Saturday at Pride Park.
Having seen his side falter against the Cottagers, Rams manager Phillip Cocu opted to make several alterations to his starting eleven for the clash with the Hoops.
Given just how poor Kelle Roos was in the club’s meeting with Fulham, the decision to drop him for Ben Hamer was arguably warranted.
In what was his first league start for the Rams, the shot-stopper produced a solid performance at the weekend in between the sticks.
Whilst he was powerless to prevent Eberechi Eze from converting a spot-kick for QPR, Hamer nevertheless illustrated some real signs of promise for Derby.
With the Rams set to face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, it will be intriguing to see whether the 32-year-old is given the nod to start ahead of Roos at Ewood Park.
Football League World’s Derby County fan pundit Matthew Bailey has insisted that Hamer should feature against Rovers.
“I definitely think Hamer should keep his place this weekend.
“He needs a run of games to show what he can do in goal and build his own confidence.
“Roos has no confidence at all at the moment and like Cocu has said, he may benefit from some time out of the side yet I think one game just isn’t enough.”
Bailey has revealed that he was relatively impressed with Hamer’s recent display against QPR.
“I think Hamer did okay.
“Although I am still never convince by a keeper that punches the ball, to be fair to him when he did punch it, it cleared to safety.
“If he is more confident doing that then fine, at least he made the decision.
“I can only remember two shaky moments.
“One was a dodgy kick after a pass back and the other was when he came for a corner and dropped the ball after contact.
“I can’t have a go at him about those though because it was his first real start for us so there are bound to be nerves.”

The Derby fan pundit has suggested that Cocu may need to sign a new shot-stopper in the upcoming transfer window.
“I think we need to bolster our options in the goalkeeping area in January.
“I am not a fan of Roos, I don’t think he is a Championship level player.
“He would be better suited to League One or League Two.
“I think you look at a lot of teams now and the way they play starts with the keeper so that’s something we need to address if we are to stick to playing out from the back.”
