Plenty of West Bromwich Albion fans have taken to social media to discuss the form of Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle, following his recent performance against Aston Villa.

The 29-year-old scored 24 goals while on loan at West Brom in the Championship last season, but he's really struggled to make an impact since returning to St James' Park in the summer.

The centre-forward has only managed three Premier League appearances for Newcastle so far this season - with all of them coming from the substitutes' bench.

He came off the bench during the second half of Newcastle's 2-0 defeat at Villa Park on Monday night and really struggled to make an impact.

If recent reports are to be believed, West Brom are keen on signing Gayle in the January transfer window, and the striker's display against Villa last night has left plenty of Baggies fans speculating on social media.

A West Brom supporter posted on Facebook: "Just watched Gayle play for Newcastle and I wondered what happened to make him look so bad? No desire and looked lost."

Plenty of Albion fans were quick to respond to the post on Facebook, here is a look at some of the best comments...

Lee Cross: He doesn't want to be there. He needs a new challenge.

Callum Bell: He probably don’t wanna be there.

Bill Hardman: It was his choice to stay.

Jamie Pearson: Waiting to come home in January.

Wayne James: He's in a very, very poor side and he doesn't play more than 20 minutes a game. He's proper fed up.

David Evans: Not playing every week. Rusty. If we do sign him like everyone keeps banging on about he will need a month to get back up to speed.

Paul McCabe: WBA bound in January, his heart is with us.

Charles Davis: Lost because he should be at the Albion.

Derek Piggott: Bruce doesn't rate him. Should have played from the start. Newcastle forward line were awful. He needs to come home.

Micky Weavers: I think I will let Bilic make the decision, the man can't do anything wrong... I did like Gayle and Barnes last season, who didn't.

Scott Waters: Good championship player but not good enough in the Premier league unfortunately.

Karen Smith: Because he is waiting to come home to the Hawthorns where he belongs.
