Nick Blackman has left Derby County to join Spanish second-tier side Sporting Gijon on a season-long loan deal, the Rams have confirmed.

Former Reading forward Blackman, 28, spent last season on loan in Israel with Maccabi Tel-Aviv and has not played for the Rams since May 2017.

Blackman joined in January 2016 but he has scored only once in 29 appearances since his move to Pride Park.

So was Lampard's decision to let Blackman go a good move?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

One penalty in all his time there suggests so.

I think he was unlucky, his move came at the wrong time and he always seemed to be an outcast at Derby.

Reading fans might disagree, but I’m not sure he was ever that good to start with.

He might tear up the Spanish second tier, but I doubt it.

Jay Taylor

So it is a decent move to loan.

The striker who is also able to play on the wing would be behind Dave Nugent, Jack Marriott and Martyn Waghorn.

The way Derby play they usually have one up top as the main striker so the need for four players who lead the line is not necessary.

He might impress out on loan and come back a better player, and ready to fight for a first-team place at Pride Park.

Sam Rourke

Definitely the right move.

The forward is clearly not in Lampard's first-team plans at the moment and needed to be shipped out on loan.

Though, I'm surprised he wasn't sold permanently.

George Dagless

Yep.

It's just not worked for him at Pride Park and they'll surely be looking for him to move on permanently sooner rather than later.

He needs a fresh start for the good of his career.
