‘He must speak a lot of languages?’ – Plenty of Derby fans react to transfer completion

Published

on

Derby County forward Nick Blackman has swapped the second tier in England for the same level in Spain, joining Sporting Gijon on a season-long loan.

The former Blackburn striker joined Derby from Reading for £3m in 2016, but never settled at Pride Park and only hit a single goal, from the penalty spot, in a 2-0 win at Cardiff City.

He spent last season out on loan in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv and this summer he hasn’t impressed Frank Lampard sufficiently to earn a squad place with the Rams.

His departure has been met with a mix of sarcasm and genuine thanks, although all fans posting on social media seem to be in agreement that his spell at Derby just didn’t work out.

The more acerbic amongst those posting on social media have  been at their cruellest, whilst others have wished him well after a miserable stint in which he started just seven Championship games.

Here is a selection of their responses.
