Sheffield Wednesday are six without a win heading into the weekend's game against fellow underperformers Middlesbrough.

Carlos Carvalhal has recently stated his side are where they are because of an injury crisis that has hit the club. Against Wolves last time out nine senior players were missing, including several key players.

That has forced the manager to constantly change his side and they have struggled as a result, with goals hard to come by.

Gary Hooper, Atdhe Nuhiu, Lucas Joao and Jordan Rhodes all featured at some point against Wolves although none managed to get on the scoresheet.

With Steve Fletcher also pushing to return from a knock, despite the injuries Carvalhal could have a lot of options up front.

However, who should he start with against Boro?

We take a look...

Not much seems to be working for Carvalhal at the moment, but I'd take a gamble on Hooper and Nuhiu.

Hooper is a given in the side given his recent form, but Nuhiu deserves a chance in the side. Rhodes has been inconsistent, and the Kosovan has impressed when called upon. With time running out for Carvalhal, he must gamble to save his job.

Jordan Rhodes and Gary Hooper.

The pair are the best Wednesday have to offer and I'd say they have to keep playing until they strike a partnership up.

If they can, Wednesday can still climb the table this season

Carvalhal has to find some consistency at Hillsborough, and to do that he needs consistency within his starting XI, so I’d be sticking with Gary Hooper and Jordan Rhodes.

Hooper and Rhodes are experienced Championship players, and although it isn’t happening for either at the current time, it will only take a couple of goals for the duo to find their best.

Carvalhal is under pressure, and now isn’t the time for risks, which is why he will maintain his patience with Hooper and Rhodes.
