Sunderland fans will still be coming to terms with heartbreak for a second time this season, following a second visit to Wembley that ended in disappointment with a League One play-off final defeat at the hands of Charlton Athletic, a result that comes hot on the heels of a Checkatrade Trophy final defeat to Portsmouth.

With the Black Cats facing up to another campaign in League One next season, owner Stewart Donald has spoken out in support of manager Jack Ross, as reported on Chronicle Live, insisting that Ross will be at the Stadium of Light next season.

So are Sunderland right to back Ross?

We discuss........

George Dagless

"Tough to say.

"You can see why he might frustrate because they have such attacking players and yet he doesn't let them off the leash.

"A good manager but he must be more adventurous next season for sure."

George Brooks

"I think so.

"There’s no getting away from the fact that it was a major disappointment for Sunderland to miss out on promotion this season, but the club have still made progress under Ross.

"He coped relatively well with the pressure of managing a club where the expectations are so high and deserves another chance to achieve success at the Stadium of Light next season."

Jacob Potter

"They’re completely wrong to do this.

"Ross will have now what his expectations were when he joined the club, and I’m surprised they haven’t sacked him yet.

"A club as big as Sunderland are, simply have to be back in the Championship, and they’ve missed a real opportunity to return to the second tier this season.

"The pressure will be on Ross as soon as next season starts, and I think it’s only a matter of time before he departs."
