Although the summer transfer window closed for Championship clubs in August, Derby County have already been linked with a possible move for Hearts forward Uche Ikpeazu in January.

According to West London Sport, the Rams are reportedly keeping tabs on the 24-year-old's situation at Tynecastle Park with Queens Park Rangers and Celtic also thought to be interested in the former Cambridge United man.

Since joining Hearts in 2018, Ikpeazu has found the back of the net on 10 occasions in 37 appearances.

Particularly impressive last season in the Scottish Cup, the forward helped the Jambos reach the final of the competition by providing three direct goal contributions.

Football League World fan pundit Lisa Howard believes that Derby should avoid signing Ikpeazu due to the fact that he has unproven at Championship level.

"Although we need to strengthen the centre-forward position in January, Ikpeazu may not be the right fit.

"With England's second-tier being more competitive than Scottish football, the forward may struggle at this level.

"The Championship is a tough division the players who make the move south can find difficult.

"Only time will tell if Ikpeazu is good enough."

Whilst Howard has admitted that Derby's current crop of forwards are good, she has suggested that they need to be more prolific in-front of goal.

"The forwards we have at Pride Park are good, but they haven't scored enough goals this season.

"The final third is letting us down at times.

"We haven't found a settle side yet so I am not sure who our best forward is.

"I certainly want us to strengthen there in January.

"Who knows, maybe Wayne Rooney could be our saviour."

Rooney is set to join up with his Derby team-mates in January after agreeing an 18-month deal in August (via BBC Sport).
