Aston Villa confirmed rumours that Christopher Samba was on trial with the club today via their official Twitter account and later posted some images of the free agent defender.

The 32-year-old was snapped taking part in a drill and chatting to potential new team mates as Steve Bruce runs the rule over the experienced centre half and weighs up whether to offer him a contract.

Christopher Samba certainly brings pedigree to the table; he has over 100 Premier League appearances from spells with Blackburn and Queens Park Rangers and he has also plied his trade in France, Germany, Russia and Greece.

The Congolese international defender is a free agent after leaving Panathinaikos last month and recently had a trial with Premier League side Crystal Palace, who are managed by his old Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce.

Aston Villa fans took to Twitter to react to the images of Samba in his Villa training kit and here are a selection of the best Tweets.
