Sheffield United have secured a deal for former Peterborough striker Conor Washington this morning, a player who has flopped in his most recent spell at QPR.

He arrives on a free transfer, having been released from QPR earlier in the day. The 26-year-old once commanded a fee of around £3m, but he's now looking to rebuild his career after a morale-sapping experience at Loftus Road.

The Blades have been in the market for a new centre-forward all summer, linked with various names but never Washington. He hadn't been part of the transfer frenzy at all and his switch to Bramall Lane has come out of the blue.

Reaction has been mixed, some QPR fans appear to be happy to see the back of him, whereas a selection of Sheffield United fans think there could be value in the switch. They cite Leon Clarke and Mark Duffy, two players seemingly on a downward trajectory but revived by the management of Chris Wilder.

Here's a selection of responses from Twitter about the deal.
