Though Dean Smith fully expects there to be interest in his star-man Jack Grealish in the summer, regardless of whether Aston Villa are promoted or not, Smith remains confident that if the club gain promotion then the 23-year-old will be going nowhere, as reported on Sky Sports.
“I would have thought it would be crazy that we didn’t get bids for him but he has committed his future to the football club,” said Smith.
“He’s got a long-term contract, he’s a Villa fan. He’s captain as well so there’s an awful lot of things for him to stay at this football club for.”
This news is bound to encourage Villa fans and spur the club on, to return to the Premier League via the play-offs this season heading into their final two matches of the season.
So how should Villa fans be feeling about Smith’s Grealish stance?
“Villa fans should be encouraged that the management is doing all they can to keep their star man.
“It bodes well for the future of the club, as there could be a number of clubs looking at their players in the summer if they don’t go up.
“This proves that Villa are keen to hold firm on their stance, which should tell Villa fans that the right people are in charge.
“They should be happy about it.
“You always want your manager to cling on to your star players for dear life and that is exactly what Smith is trying to do.
“However, they will know that even if they are promoted that there is a really big chance that Grealish will still leave.”
“After all, it shows a resilience and positive approach to the future.
“I’d be hugely worried at losing such a player, so to be told it isn’t going to happen is brilliant.
“Now, he just has to keep his word.”
