Reading exited the Carabao Cup on Wednesday as they were beaten by Wolves on penalties in the third round of the competition at Molineux.

Joao Virginia made another mistake between the posts for Jose Gomes' side on the night, although Lucas Boye took the game to spot-kicks with a last gasp equaliser.

But Boye and John Swift both missed their penalties, and Virginia was unable to save any of Wolves' as the Premier League side progressed to the next round.

Football League World's Reading fan pundit Jamie Gorman issued his thoughts on Virginia's performance on the night, and questioned as to why Gomes handed him a start in the first place.

"It was yet another costly howler from the young keeper, and we were scratching our heads why he started in the first place. Sam Walker did well in the previous round and should have kept his place many thought.

"After the mistake, he didn’t really have a lot to do."

The regular punter went on to state that Reading should be terminating Virginia's loan spell with the club, and claims he isn't ready for the demands of Championship football yet.

"Reading should definitely be considering terminating his loan, but there’s a lot of uncertainty whether we can or not, or that he may have to play ten games before we can.

"One thing is certain, he isn’t ready for Championship football yet and needs longer in Everton’s under 23's."

Reading are next in action at the weekend when they take on Swansea City, in what will be a tough test for Jose Gomes' side once again.
