Jack Butland hasn’t had the best of starts to the season having made a mistake in both of Stoke City’s opening games.
The England international is spending his second consecutive season in the Championship after the Potters’ relegation back in 2018.
Former Stoke midfielder, Liam Lawrence, doesn’t want the supporters to get on Jack Butland’s back and has encouraged them to remember all the points he has saved the side over the years.
Nathan Jones’ side have lost to both QPR and Charlton already this season with pressure beginning to mount on the club once more.
The club did, however, get through to the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night when they beat Wigan at the DW Stadium. They will take on Leeds at Elland Road for a place in the third round.
On Saturday, Stoke will take on Phillip Cocu’s Derby side who remain unbeaten after an impressive start to the season. Butland will be hoping that he can keep his first clean sheet of the season.
Here’s what Stoke City fans made of Lawrence’s comments and the debate over Butland’s starting spot…
Good article as always but have to disagree about Butland. His form has dipped massively, and whilst I’d never question his professionalism, he isn’t above criticism when he costs us the opening goal of the first two league games.

NJ should play Davies as Butland has made a few mistakes already this season. The one against Charlton especially and conceeding 5 goals in 2 games isn't good from an England international. We all love Jack but team needs to be picked on form 🔴⚪🔴⚪

I respect Jack but if he continues making a mistake that leads to a goal every game he deserves dropping

Maybe not sell Butland but based on current form drop him for Federici or Davies (if fit) might be a kick up the backside! If he wants a January move he's gotta earn it!

What wages is he on Martin? I’d wager that it is considerably more than Moritz Bauer and that Butland was one of the ones who insisted his money was put back up for staying last season.

Vokes and afobe we rubbish against qpr . One dropped one loaned out . No one is guaranteed a starting spot . Why should butland be any different?

He had plenty of support. But then he started costing us goals whilst expecting a move to a bigger club.
