The 2019/20 season looks like it could be an exciting one for Sheffield Wednesday after Steve Bruce's notable mid-season impact at Hillsborough.

His staff arrived in January before he finally took his place a month later and they managed to steer the Owls away from a potential relegation scrap into play-off contenders.

They ultimately fell short but with a full summer in which to prepare there is no reason why Bruce cannot take them one step further next season.

And their fans were given some news on Monday when the Daily Mail reported that Kieren Westwood was set to stay with the club amid rumours of a move Huddersfield.

So, is this a boost for Wednesday?

We discuss...

Gary Hutchinson

“It is, they need his experience between the sticks.

“It doesn’t surprise me, he showed them real loyalty when frozen out by Luhukay.

“Walking away would have sullied that goodwill he built up with the supporters.

“He’ll finish his career at the club, that’s almost certain.”

Toby Wilding

"This is a big boost for Wednesday.

"Westwood has been an important part of The Owls' upturn in form in the second half of the season, and he is clearly a popular figure around Hillsborough.

"Holding off a side dropping out of the top tier to keep Westwood could also be seen as a feather in the cap for Wednesday."

George Harbey

"This is a massive boost for Wednesday as he is such an important player for the Owls.

"To lose him to another Yorkshire club would have been a massive kick in the teeth for Wednesday fans, especially on a free transfer.

"He is still a very good goalkeeper despite entering the latter stages of his playing career, and the experience he brings is beneficial for the Owls."
