Burnley defender Jordan Beyer has impressed since his loan move from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 22-year-old joined the Clarets from the German outfit on a temporary basis in September and has established himself as a regular at the heart of the defence.

Beyer has made 20 appearances in all competitions for the Championship leaders, while he scored his first goal for the club in last month's win over Coventry City.

BILD reported in December that the Clarets do not have an option to buy Beyer at the end of the season, but they are keen to sign him permanently, although a "transfer fee of millions" would be required.

The German U21 international is under contract with Monchengladbach until June 2026 and admitted last month that while he is enjoying his time at Turf Moor, he also holds a lot of affection for his parent club.

But FLW's Burnley fan pundit Ben Livingstone says the club should do everything they can do keep him in the summer.

"There's rumours that Beyer has an option to buy if we get promoted, but sources in Germany say that there isn't one, so we'll find out at the end of the season," Ben said.

"I think we should do everything possible, he's our best defender by a mile.

"The way he plays is so good, he is incredible and I think he's more than ready to make the step up to the Premier League.

"If the £6 million to buy option is true, then that's an absolute steal.

"But we should definitely be going all out for him in the summer, he's our best loan player, he's absolutely brilliant, so I'd be all over him in the summer."

The verdict

It is difficult to disagree with Ben on this one.

Beyer has been outstanding for the Clarets this season and there is no doubt that they should attempt to sign him permanently in the summer.

At still only 22, Beyer would be an excellent long-term investment with plenty more room to develop further and his performances this campaign suggest he would be more than capable of playing in the Premier League.

Kompany has recently strengthened at centre-half with the arrivals of Ameen Al-Dakhil and Hjalmar Ekdal and you would trust him in the market in the summer given his recruitment track record, so the Clarets would be able to replace Beyer should they be unable to get a deal over the line.

But keeping hold of the German should be a priority and with promotion to the top flight looking inevitable, they may have a good chance of doing so.
