Aston Villa supporters will be hoping for much better from their side when the new Championship season gets underway in August.

The Villans laboured to a 13th place finish in their first campaign in the second tier last term, this all after a disastrous Premier League season the time before which saw them pick up a mere 17 points from their 38 matches, and thus meekly surrender their status as a top-flight club.

Nonetheless, there was renewed optimism when Roberto Di Matteo was appointed as manager last summer, but he lasted just a few months before former Birmingham chief Steve Bruce took over, and steadied the ship to end up 13th in the division.

However, the 56-year-old will seek to bridge that 18-point gap to the top six by compiling a squad capable of achieving promotion next term, but one man who is unlikely to be a part of that is defender Jordan Amavi.

The young defender has recently been placed on the transfer list after failing to impress in his two-year spell at Villa Park, in which time he has managed 48 appearances for the club.

And amid reported interest from around Europe, it now appears that Bruce and the Villa hierarchy are looking to cash in on the 23-year-old, and news of his transfer-listing has stimulated quite a response from Villa fans on Twitter, with many welcoming the decision…
