Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Queens Park Rangers, with the Daily Record reporting, the Scotland international is on Mark Warburton's shortlist with QPR said to be considering a bid in January.

McKenna has been linked with a move south of the border over the past 18 months, with the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa having previously been suggested as potential destinations.

So would the 23-year-old be a good signing for QPR and is he actually needed?

We discuss.........

Dean Cooke

"He is certainly needed. QPR are in desperate need of some more defenders who can help them shut the door which will help build some consistency in the second-half of the campaign.

"McKenna, for a young player, is very experienced and has even made appearances for the national team showing that he has come up against some of the world's best attackers.

"QPR are currently a side that has a very good attack, however the goals that are being conceded are becoming ridiculous and a 5-3 defeat to Barnsley may have prompted Mark Warburton to look to strengthen his options in January.

"McKenna would be a good signing for the R's and someone that would be an upgrade on the majority of their defensive options."

George Harbey

"I think McKenna would be a shrewd addition for Mark Warburton's side in January and he could be available at a bargain price.

"McKenna's future at Aberdeen has looked uncertain and been up in the air since the start of the season, and the R's should look to pounce as they tried to do over the course of the summer.

"McKenna is a tall, commanding centre-half who is arguably one of the best players in the SPFL, and he has captained the Scotland national team on numerous occasions which speaks volumes.

"Grant Hall and Toni Leistner have been impressive on the whole this season, but there is no harm in adding back-up to the defensive duo especially if it's a player of McKenna's quality."

“This may turn out to be somewhat of a coup by Queens Park Rangers if they can convince Scott McKenna to make the move to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium next month.

“Whilst the defender has no previous experience of playing Championship football, his performances for Aberdeen over the past few seasons have been extremely impressive.

“Having only kept two clean-sheets in all competitions during the current campaign, it could be argued that QPR need to bolster their options at the back if they are to have any chance of reaching the play-offs in 2020.”

“Therefore, a swoop for McKenna could be worth the risk as he unquestionably has a bright future ahead of him and may thrive under the guidance of Mark Warburton.”
