With the transfer window now closed, Aston Villa manager Dean Smith now has the squad that will hopefully get the Villans into the promotion mix in a highly competitive Championship this season.

A player though who has struggled to force his way into Smith's starting XI on a regular basis is midfielder Henri Lansbury, who has only managed 33 appearances since arriving at Villa Park from Nottingham Forest in 2017.

A catalogue of hamstring injuries have restricted his game time and the latest prompted the 28-year-old to post on his personal Instagram, stressing he was keen to get back to first team action as soon as possible.

So are Villa missing a contribution from Lansbury?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

"I don’t think they need him.

"There’s a reason he hasn’t played much this season, and that’s because he’s not better than the options Smith has available to him in midfield.

"Surely he’s heading for the exit door in the summer?"

Louie Chandler

"I don’t think so.

"Maybe the Lansbury Villa signed many moons ago but not the one now.

"He will be far behind the likes of McGinn and Hourihane."

Jay Taylor

“With John McGinn and Conor Hourihane, I don’t think he is being missed as much as he missed the game.

“He would be another option for Dean Smith, but I doubt he would change the fortunes of the side at present.

“He hardly featured before his injury, and would potentially be without him once he is fit, so I don’t see what else this is other than to get views on Instagram.”

Gary Hutchinson

“Not at all, no.

“There’s every chance he won’t play for Villa again.

“He’s a talented boy though, he has to hunt out a new club.

“He should have gone somewhere like Ipswich or Rotherham in the window.”
