Stoke City boss, Nathan Jones has recently revealed (to Stoke Sentinel) that Jack Butland is struggling for form between the sticks after intense speculation that he could have left the club over the summer.
Football League World’s Stoke City fan pundit, Elizabeth Tute has issued her thoughts on Butland’s future at the club, and is hopeful that the goalkeeper can recapture his best form at the earliest of opportunities.
“I’m not worried about Jack Butland’s state of mind. He’s a dedicated professional and I’m confident the speculation won’t affect him for long.
“He works hard and will regain his form and confidence over the next few matches.
“However, should Butland struggle to shake off the affects of the transfer speculation, Andy Quy is a great coach and I’m in no doubt that Davies or Federici will be ready to deputise.”
The Stoke City fan pundit also felt that the club made the right decision in keeping him over the summer, although she does think that Adam Davies has been signed as a long-term replacement to the England shot-stopper.
“Jack and the club came to an agreement that unless their valuation was met, Jack would stay with Stoke and both parties have upheld that deal.
“However, Stoke bought in Davies from Barnsley, so it certainly seems like they were expecting Butland to depart over the summer.
“I think it was probably the right decision for the club not to sell cheap but it will likely prove a hindrance in Butland’s quest to be England’s number 1, a position which he is most certainly deserving despite a dip in form at the beginning of this season.
“Credit to Jack, he has shown integrity and his commitment to Stoke when he could have easily forced a move.”
Tute doesn’t hold out high hopes that her side will be able to keep Butland at the club heading into next season though – especially if they aren’t promoted back into the Premier League this term.
“I would be very surprised if Butland left us for Europe. I imagine he has his eyes on the Premier League.
“He can’t go there yet and it’s not often keepers move in January so I think he will see the season out with Stoke. We won’t manage to keep hold of him beyond that unless we get promoted though.”
