New Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate has got into his stride swiftly in the Riverside hot-seat, with a move for Charlton Athletic full-back Anfernee Dijksteel one of his first acts as Boro boss, as reported in The Sun.

Dijksteel, 22, has been at the Valley since 2016, but enjoyed his best season at the club during the last campaign, with 36 appearances in all competitions.

But would Dijksteel get into Boro's starting XI if he signed this summer?

We discuss........

Tommy Joyce

"Middlesbrough need to sign a right-back, and Dijksteel could fit the mould well for Woodgate's side.

"He's wanting to bring in youth and at 22 he would be a really good signing.

"He's a better option that Shotton, in my opinion, so he would have to be in their best starting 11 for me.

"It is hard to imagine Dijksteel not being there or thereabouts as it would be hard to imagine him leaving to not get a look-in with the first team."

George Harbey

"Given the way that Middlesbrough set up and played last season, you have got to say that Dijksteel would be a regular starter for Boro.

"Lyle Taylor and Joe Aribo stood out last season, but in my view, he was Charlton’s unsung hero last season, putting in energetic, passionate performances on a weekly basis.

"Of course, his main position is at right-back, but he can also slot into a five-man midfield and play as a wing-back if needs be, so he could be a perfect fit.

"He would provide real steel and athleticism down the flanks, and would be a class signing."

Ben Lang

"He has every chance.

"Boro are spectacularly short of full-backs with the exception of George Friend and Ryan Shotton, and Dijksteel has impressed at right-back for Charlton last season.

"Dijksteel would provide another option for Woodgate in the right-back berth, and he is still young at 22 so would provide stability in that position for the future.

"Charlton may also struggle to financially compete in the Championship ahead of the new season, so may be keen to offload Dijksteel to create funds."

Chris Gallagher

"I think he would and he'd be a smart signing.

"Boro fans will hope that Jonathan Woodgate's appointment as manager is going to bring a new, attacking style of play following on from Tony Pulis.

"And, one area that needs to be addressed is at full-back, with more adventurous options needed.

"Dijksteel would fit the bill as he has a lot of energy and loves to get forward so this would be a very good deal and he would improve the XI."
