Bradford City have parted company with manager Gary Bowyer following a poor run of results, it has been confirmed on the club's official club website, with the Bantams winless in seven matches, with their last win coming back on New Year's Day.

Bowyer, who has previously coached Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool, joined the club in March after David Hopkin's resignation.

The Bantams have no moved to appoint Stuart McCall for a third time.

So were Bradford right to sack Bowyer?

We discuss.........

George Harbey

"I think that this decision is completely the right one - he has completely underachieved during his time at Bradford, in my view.

"I initially thought that when Bowyer was appointed, he'd do well. He has worked under tough conditions at Blackpool before and knows how to reunite a toxic club, and he also has experience of winning promotion from this level.

"But it just hasn't worked out for him, the signings he made in the summer just haven't delivered for him, and with that squad they should be doing much, much better in League Two this season.

"He lost the support of the fans which is always going to make it hard for any manager, and I think the decisions to sell Eoin Doyle and James Vaughan speaks volumes to be perfectly honest."

“When you consider that promotion back to League One is on Bradford’s agenda this season, it comes as little surprise that they have opted to part ways with Bowyer.

“Having initially made a positive start to the campaign in the fourth-tier, the Bantams’ recent form has been well below par.

“Without a win in their last seven league games, Bradford have dropped out of the play-off places and now face a real fight to secure a top-seven finish.

“If the club are still serious about promotion, it is imperative that they bring in a replacement for Bowyer who knows exactly what it takes to succeed at this level as a failure to do so could result in the club suffering further decline.”

Chris Thorpe

"It would be fair to say that Bradford have made the best decision they possibly could right now, with the Bantams having failed to win in the league since the start of January.

"Although the club are sitting just one point off the play-off places at present, it must be noted that the club's hierarchy invested heavily in strengthening the team in order to build a squad capable of gaining promotion back to League One.

"Alas, Bowyer was the man tasked with getting the best out of his talented squad and as we now know, he has failed to do that.

"It remains to be seen who will take the job now, but there is sure to be a long list of names who will be interested in taking on the challenge of restoring the former Premier League club to what they used to be."
