Wolverhampton Wanderers are the team to beat in the Sky Bet Championship this season, as they currently sit top of the table.

However, it's not always been plain sailing for the Black Country side, and over the past few years the Midlands outfit have had to endure mediocrity.

To go with that, there have been signings that Wolves have made that have turned out to be massive mistakes.

But who, over the last five years, has been Wolves' worst signing?

We take a look.....

Alfie Burns

Prince Oniangue.

He has been awful since his arrival at Molineux, and was one of Walter Zenga’s worst signings during his short time with Wolves.

The midfielder didn’t fit into Paul Lambert’s plans, and he will not get anywhere near Nuno’s side who are pushing for the Premier League.

Oniangue remains a reminder of the disappointment of last year.

George Dagless

Yannick Sagbo.

The striker signed with a half-decent reputation on-loan in 2014 but failed to live up to in spectacularly with a hugely forgettable time at Molineux.

He registered just four measly appearances with the club before moving on and, unsurprisingly didn't have a goal to show for his time there.

He's worlds away from what Wolves have got going forwards now.

Chris Gallagher

Of the last five years, Leon Clarke. Before that there would've been plenty of candidates though!

The Sheffield United man joined from fellow League One side Coventry back in 2014 for a reasonably hefty £750,000 when Wolves were also said to be looking at his strike partner Callum Wilson.

Well, Wanderers made the wrong move, even though they got promoted. Clarke played 29 league games and scored three goals, barely doing a thing. Loan spells followed before he was eventually released on a free.

To make matter worse, the striker scored twice for the Blades this season as they beat Wolves 2-0 at Bramall Lane.
