Last season's play-off semi-finalists Reading have announced on their official website that centre-half Tommy Elphick has joined the Royals on a loan deal that runs until the end of the season from promotion-chasing Aston Villa.

30-year-old Elphick's Reading squad number has already been announced as well. The former Bournemouth man will wear the number three shirt during his time at the Madejski Stadium and could make his debut tomorrow night against the Championship's bottom club Burton Albion.

The defender comes into the club with a great deal of Championship appearances to his name. He has 115 outings in the second tier, for Villa as well as former clubs Brighton and Hove Albion and Bournemouth.

He also has twelve Premier League appearances to his name as well and Reading fans have taken to Twitter to air their views on a move that moved closer over the weekend and has finally been announced.

Here is some of the best reaction...
