With the transfer window now firmly shut, Aston Villa manager Dean Smith needs to work with the squad he has assembled, as he looks to mount a serious promotion challenge as we enter the final third of the season.

One player yet to make any sort of impact on the Villa starting XI this season is midfielder Henri Lansbury who picked up another injury, soon after Smith gave him a run-out in the first team squad.

So will Lansbury play another minute for Villa this season?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

“I am sure he will have some part to play, but how big a part and how consistently he plays remains to be seen.

“Smith did use the former Norwich and Arsenal man, but he, unfortunately, got injured, so if he picks up from where he left off when he returns, then a place in the squad could well be forthcoming.

“But, having said that, I would not be surprised if the midfielder didn’t play again for Villa.

“It all depends on the form of the side and the personnel available once he is fit.”

Gary Hutchinson

“I can’t see it.

“It must be tough, technically he’s a gifted player and he’d do a grand job at Ipswich or Rotherham.

“Instead he festers away in the Villa stiffs, wasting a promising career.”

Jacob Potter

"He doesn’t have a future at the club.

"Lansbury evidently is out-of-favour at Villa Park right now, and I find it hard to believe that he can force his way into Dean Smith’s plans anytime soon.

"There are simply better options available to the Villa boss in midfield, and surely he’ll be keen to move Lansbury on to get him off the wage bill in the summer?"
