Derby County striker Jack Marriott is expected to be available for this weekend's clash with Charlton Athletic at The Valley, after a short spell on the sidelines through injury.

The Rams are set to be boosted by the return of the striker this weekend, as Phillip Cocu's side look to claim only their fourth win of the season with a victory over the Addicks.

It has been a frustrating to the season under Cocu for Marriott - the former Peterborough man has struggled to get into any sort of rhythm up top, scoring just one goal in a total of 10 appearances this term.

Football League World's Derby County fan pundit, Lisa Howard, has discussed the potential return of Marriott. and she says that she would love to see the striker partner up with the in-form Chris Martin up top.

"I think we should stick with Martin, but I would love to see Jack start along side Martin they would be a real threat. I trust Cocu to pick what is best for the team."

Marriott was a revelation under Frank Lampard last season, scoring 13 goals in all competitions and netting a total of 14 goals since making the move from Peterborough United, despite 24 his appearances coming from off the bench.

Speaking about the difference Marriott makes when he plays, our regular punter said: "When Jack has played this season he does make a difference - defenders are frightened by his pace and ability to score in the box. He is a little menace in the six yard box.

"I would describe his start as frustrating. When he does play though, he does make a difference."

As alluded to before, it has been a frustrating start to life under Cocu for Marriott, who has made just four league starts for the Rams this term.

Martyn Waghorn has been a regular for Derby, whilst Chris Martin has also ground the running upon making his return to the first-team under Cocu, so Marriott faces a big battle on his hands to get back into the team.

Howard has admitted that Marriott needs to work harder when he is given his chance by the Dutchman, saying: "Cocu seems to prefer Martin and Waghorn at the moment for some reason. We do hear that Marriott's attitude at times in training isn’t the best, and that’s why he doesn’t start games.

"I think Cocu does like him, but he needs to work harder when called upon."
