Phillip Cocu's Derby County are weighing up a loan move for Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman, according to the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old hasn’t played for the London club competitively since the final day of the 2015-2016 campaign, but a number of clubs including the Rams are keeping tabs on his situation ahead of Friday's deadline.

The defender has spent the last two seasons out on loan away from Stamford Bridge at Schalke, Reims and Spanish side Mallorca, though, Rahman hasn't featured competitively since January due to a serious knee injury.

So, from a Derby County perspective, would this be a good singing? Is he needed?

This could be a decent signing.

Things have never really got going for Baba Rahman at Chelsea, but his previous experience at top-flight level across Europe suggests he could still be a useful asset for the Rams.

Add to that the fact that he will no doubt be determined to prove he is worthy of a chance in the Premier League - either with Chelsea or another club going forward - there will surely be incentive for Rahman to perform if he joins the Rams, which could be beneficial for Phillip Cocu's side.

Indeed, you do also feel as though Derby could benefit from the signing of the left-back, with the teenage Lee Buchanan and more experienced Craig Forsyth seemingly struggling to hold down that position on the left-hand side of the Rams' defence so far this season.

This would be an excellent signing.

Whilst Derby have a few left-backs at the club, they haven't really replaced Max Lowe after he departed for Sheffield United.

The full-back's are crucial to the way Cocu plays as he demands an attacking input from them and Rahman would fit the bill.

It's a worry that he hasn't played a lot in recent years but the fact he has been signed by Chelsea and loaned to top-flight clubs such as Schalke, Reims and Mallorca shows that he has talent.

Derby could be the ideal club to give him the regular game time he wants and the 26-year-old would use this chance to show everyone why he was so highly-rated a few years ago.
