Sunderland have been dealt some serious news this morning with the emergence that outcast midfielder Didier Ndong now wants to return to the club.

The powerful midfielder has been AWOL for most of the summer and was expected to be sold on by the club, however, a move never materialised, leaving the club and player in limbo as Ndong failed to report back to training under Jack Ross.

However, the midfielder has now spoken of his desire to help the club return to the second division, in what will be seen a shock u-turn by fans of the Stadium of Light club.

The midfielder is clearly a talent, having signed for the Mackems a few seasons back in a big money deal, and despite not making an appearance last term during a loan spell with Watford, he could well prove a useful addition in League One if he can regain form and a place in the starting XI.

We at FLW think this could have a massive impact on Sunderland this season, and we sought out hte opinions of our writing team to see just what they thought of Ndong's u-turn...

Is this guy a fool?
How can you be AWOL for this long then expect a return? It’s an insult to the club and the fans and as far as I’m concerned he has burnt his bridges.
Sunderland are doing fine without him so keep it that way and keep him as far away from the club as possible until he can be sold or let go.
Simple as.

While it might cause ruptions within the squad, there is no doubt he could make a massive difference he gets his head screwed on.
An apology and a lot of hard work is going to be required, but Ndong is clearly a player with talent, so in League One, he could be a huge player.
It's an interesting one for Jack Ross. But if he can get Ndong playing, then you just never know.

He surely can't be serious?
Ndong's attitude this summer has been disgraceful and there's no excusing his behaviour.
To not show up displays a complete lack of respect to everyone at the club from his teammates to the fans and he can talk about returning all he wants but there's no way that Jack Ross would welcome him back into the fold - and rightly so.
He's proven himself as a negative influence and Sunderland don't need that now.
